Iranian Regime Fires Foreign Minister While Minister Was Visiting Senegal
Ahmadinejad is busy consolidating power and it appears that he’s won over the mullahs, including Supreme Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who had been keeping Mottoki around.
Iran’s nuclear energy chief has been named as interim foreign minister.
That should raise eyebrows. It shows a potential shift in Iran’s message about its nuclear program. Expect the country to try and spin its ambitions along civilian lines, but note too that Iran’s bellicosity towards its rivals in the region continues and those countries continue to remain wary about Iran going nuclear.
Moreover, it shows that Ahmadinejad is consolidating his power and the mullahs are either willing partners or are no longer in a position to deny him that power.
